Rum in the Sun!

Image

Miami Rum Renaissance Festival was an event unlike anything we’ve ever attended! With over 100 rum companies there from all over the world, we tasted flavors we never knew existed. It was the PERFECT place to start Lighthouse Rum Cakes search for our next flavor!

This is what we call a GREAT business trip…

Lighthouse Rum Cakes current flavors are original, chocolate and coconut. Original is a vanilla bean with a hint of butter and drizzled with walnuts. Chocolate is a perfect balance of cocoa and rum with a very smooth texture. Coconut has actual coconut flakes and is made with a combination of different rums and is our most popular!

To name a few great rums at the show:

Goslings handed out their famous Dark and Stormy drink. One of our favorites! A perfect blend of sweetness and rum, not overpowering and very refreshing.

Dark & Stormy Recipe:

  • Ice
  • 1/4 lime, cut into two thick slices, one for garnish, one to squeeze over the ice (optional)
  • 2 ounces Gosling’s Black Seal Bermuda black rum
  • 4 ounces ginger beer (Gosling’s makes one just for this purpose)
Gubba rum is a new company that makes naturally infused rums from pure cane and fruits, spices and herbs. We sampled the Gubba Gold rum which contains natural vanilla and also Gubba Silver which contains natural coconut. Both rums were impressively smooth and are unique in that it’s all 100% organic.
Ron Abuelo made amazing mojitos! They were using Ron Abuelo 7 Años which is a rich blend of superb rums, aged for 7 years in carefully selected small oak barrels. They garnished the drinks with a mint leaf and a small piece of sugar cane which they cut right in front of you from the large sugar canes on display!
Mojito Recipe:
  • fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 lime, cut into 4 wedges
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1 1/2 fluid ounces white rum
  • 1/2 cup lemon-lime or club soda

Saturday morning charges a higher admission and is meant for media and the rum connoisseur.  This would be the time I would recommend to go! There was a very comfortable amount of people and no lines at any booths. From 4-7 pm admission goes down and it gets busy quick!

The show had live music the whole time with different performers from rock to steel drums to Polynesian dancers. There are also lectures going on about different topics from making rum to learning what to look for in a fine rum. It’s not uncommon to see pirates walking around and other  costumes that follow the themes of the rum companies!
